Why I am now a fan of North Face.

I was shooting at Pike Place Market in Seattle today. On my way back to the Bainbridge Ferry, I walked by the North Face Store (1023 1st Ave) and I noticed a single pair of shoes out front. I found it visually interesting. A moment later, a North Face employee came out and set a second pair next to the first.

I asked about them and he explained that when a customer buys new shoes and their old pair is in good condition and unwanted, a North Face employee puts the shoes out front. "They are always gone in a couple of hours."

The Hyla 9

This week, I have been in a classroom at Hyla Middle School, talking with a group of kids about the creative process and photography. We ended by having everyone sit for a portrait. I remember my middle school pictures and hope these kids will be able to look back and not cringe at these particular photos.
